New Council Member Appointed to the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council

Following an open selection process through the Public Appointments Service, the Minister for Finance, Mr Simon Harris TD, has appointed Prof. Karina Doorley as a Member of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council. The appointment is effective from today. As Prof. Karina Doorley is filling a vacancy which arose on 1st August 2025, her initial term expires on 31 December 2028, with an option of reappointment thereafter.

Short Biography
Karina Doorley is an Associate Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute. Prof. Doorley is the Research Area Coordinator for the Tax, Welfare and Pensions team. She received her PhD from University College Dublin in 2012. She has previously worked at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) as a Research Associate from 2012 until 2014. She joined the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) as a Research Associate in 2014 and was appointed head of the “Employment and Wages” unit at LISER in 2016. She joined the ESRI in 2017 and is also currently a Research Fellow at IZA.

Selection process
The selection process for this appointment was undertaken in accordance with the “Guidelines for appointments to State Boards” published by the Government in November 2014. The vacancy was advertised on Stateboards.ie and managed by the Public Appointments Service.
