About the Council
The Fiscal Council is an independent statutory body. It is responsible for giving an honest and independent assessment of how the Government is managing the public finances and the economy.
Job Description
This summer, we have an exciting opportunity for two summer interns.
The interns will work together on a collaborative research project examining macroeconomic forecast errors. Macroeconomic forecasting is a key part of the Council’s mandate, which includes endorsing the macroeconomic forecasts of the Department of Finance.
The project will involve the two interns working together, with dedicated support and mentoring from the Council’s staff. They will explore existing work in this space and will use statistical and econometric techniques to assess whether there is bias in macroeconomic forecasts in Ireland. The interns will be listed as authors on any subsequent publication from this analysis.
Interns will come away from the project with experience of what it is like to work in a professional and supportive organisation developing high-impact research with direct policy implications.
The internships are temporary posts lasting up to twelve weeks and attract a stipend of €605.69 per week, based on the current Clerical Officer scale. The Council also supports remote working. It operates a coordinated hybrid working solution, which is highly flexible.
Specific dates will primarily be based on candidates’ availability.
We will select a panel of candidates for any appointment.
